Welcome to my website! My name is Nils and I am currently a student at the Technical University Munich. My studies focus on Machine Learning, Data Science and Artificial Intelligence. In my free time, I like to meet my friends, play basketball, watch Arte documentaries or do some nerdy stuff like this website. You can also find some of my favourite projects below.
During the summer of 2020, I worked with a group of students and the Africa Department of the International Monetary Fund on one of my favourite and most insightful projects so far. Our team analysed real-world data such as satellite imagery, google trends data, and mobile payment data to predict economic activity in Sub-Saharan Africa. The IMF will be able to incorporate our prediction models into their forecasts thanks to our publication.
During my time in the Visual Computing Group at Harvard University,
I learned a lot about Python programming, designing efficient algorithms
for super-large datasets, data visualization and machine learning models.
We published a paper for MICCAI 2020, MICCAI 2021 (under revision) and released a fully labeled
connectomics dataset for the scientific community. Furthermore, I
published a machine
learning model evaluation tool that works super-fast
for very large 3D datasets.
Before starting my daily study routine, I like to do a page of the Rust programming handbook. Rust is my first low-level language. Rust is comparable to C or C++, but designed to be particularly safe. By the time I am writing this, I am at chapter 10 out of 20.
